Its been a long-time dream of my roommate/friend to find a crappy old wing-back chair on craigslist and reupholster it in some sort of awesome fabric… Luckily, I just happen to have a job where I have access to some of the most awesome fabric on the planet!
Originally we were going to do each piece of the chair in a different (but similar enough) pattern of fabric, to make it truly wild. But then I found this fabric, which yes, has CHAIRS ON IT. And it seemed perfect, especially as our living room walls are the same shade of yellow!
The fabric was designed by 1canoe2 and can be found here.
Fundamentally, the theory behind reupholstering a chair is pretty simple. Anyone can do it really, all you need is a staple gun, and a LOT of patience (and sometimes a sewing machine). We used the tutorial found here.
We both spent a LOT of time pulling out staples, and then she traced all the pieces of old fabric onto the new fabric to cut out. I then sewed together the two wings (first time I’ve done piping, woo hoo!) and the cushion cover. Then she did most of the work stretching the new fabric around the frame, folding it to hide the staples as she did so. I wish I had a picture of the original fabric, as it was a very dirty smelly ugly old blue brocade.
